INAUGURAL MACBAIN CHAIR IN HEALTH LAW AND POLICY:

On April 11, 2012, Dean Kim Brooks was very pleased to announce that Ms. Erdman will be joining the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in July 2012 as the inaugural MacBain Chair in Health Law and Policy.

The MacBain Chair in Health Law and Policy, named after Arthur Allister MacBain (LLB 1951) and established in 2011, was created through the generous support of the McCall MacBain Foundation.  This gift was given as part of Bold Ambitions: The Campaign for Dalhousie.  more...


2012 NATIONAL HEALTH LAW CONFERENCE
Global Health Challenges & the Role of Law
May 4-5, 2012, Toronto

This conference brought together leading scholars, policy-makers, practicing lawyers, and health care professionals to explore how law ccould address global health challenges and make real progressive change.  Participants discussed challenges such as i) access to care and essential medicines on the part of the most vulnerable (poor, mentally ill, aboriginal populations); ii) the rise and inequitable impact of medical tourism; iii) the spread of chronic diseases around the world; iv) exponential increases in smoking in many countries; and v) the obesity epidemic and so forth...

CONVOCATION 2011

Congratulations to 12 law students who received LLB specialization certificates in Health Law and Policy upon convocating on May 27, 2011.  They were Erin Fowler, Joanna Weiss, Katie Saldanha, Laura Dowling, Lauren Grant, Michelle Black, Sue Margison, Brian Wilson, Skye Friesen, Faylene Lunn, Tom Wallwork, and Rachel Woynorowski.


HEALTH LAW INSTITUTE PRIZE

Skye Friesen was the 2010-11 recipient of the Health Law Institute Prize. This prize is awarded to the third year law student graduating in the Health Law and Policy Specialization Program having the highest grade point average in health law courses counted toward the specialization.  Well done, Skye!
